The article is called: <em>Rhodothermus bifroesti<\/em>\u00a0sp. nov., a thermophilic bacterium isolated from the basaltic subsurface of the volcanic island Surtsey.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The volcanic island Surtsey is the southernmost point of Iceland and it was formed in volcanic eruptions that took place from 1963 to 1967. Surtsey has been protected from human interference since it was formed but has been a subject for many scientific researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Article was published online late January 2022 and the abstract is as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Novel thermophilic heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from the subsurface of the volcanic island Surtsey off the south coast of Iceland. The strains were isolated from tephra core and borehole fluid samples collected below 70 m depth. The Gram-negative bacteria were rod-shaped (0.3\u20130.4 widem wide, 1.5\u20137 longm long), aerobic, non-sporulating and non-motile. Optimal growth was observed at 70 \u00b0 C, at pH 7\u20137.5 and with 1% NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis identified the strains as members of the genus\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.8336\">Rhodothermus<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>. The type strain, ISCAR-7401<sup>T<\/sup>, was genetically distinct from its closest relatives\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.8337\">Rhodothermus marinus<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>DSM 4252<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.20305\">Rhodothermus profundi<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>PRI 2902<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (95.81 and 96.01%, respectively), genomic average nucleotide identity (73.73 and 72.61%, respectively) and digital DNA \u2013 DNA hybridization (17.6 and 16.9%, respectively). The major fatty acids of ISCAR-7401<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0were iso-C<sub>17:0<\/sub>, anteiso-C<sub>15:0<\/sub>, anteiso-C<sub>17:0<\/sub>\u00a0and iso-C<sub>15:0<\/sub>\u00a0(&gt; 10 %). The major isoprenoid quinone was MK-7 while phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified aminophospholipid and a phospholipid were the predominant polar lipid components. Based on comparative chemotaxonomic, genomic and phylogenetic analyzes, we propose that the isolated strain represents a novel species of the genus\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.8336\">Rhodothermus<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>with the name\u00a0<em>Rhodothermus bifroesti<\/em>\u00a0sp. nov. The type strain is ISCAR-7401<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0(= DSM 112103<sup>T<\/sup>= CIP 111906<sup>T<\/sup>).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read the article in the International Journal of Systematic
