This paper presents a comprehensive study on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/materials-science\/mechanical-property\">mechanical behavior<\/a>\u00a0of HDPE sandwich structures for fish container applications in the fishery industry. Material properties tests were conducted separately on the components of PE sandwich structure containers, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/materials-science\/tensile-testing\">tension tests<\/a>\u00a0on HDPE solid skins, and compression and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/materials-science\/flexural-testing\">flexure tests<\/a>\u00a0on the PE foam core, and macro-structures were investigated. Using the experimental material properties data from these tests, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/finite-element-modeling\">finite element model<\/a>\u00a0was developed and validated to investigate the load-bearing behavior of the container\u2019s handle under industrial hoisting conditions. The test results showed that the HDPE solid skin exhibited\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/isotropy\">isotropy<\/a>\u00a0in all groups, and with lower density and micro bubbles existing, the material showed less ductility yet Young\u2019s modulus and yield strength remained unchanged. The foam core demonstrated excellent ductility and resilience under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/large-deformation\">large deformations<\/a>\u00a0without breakage. The validated simulations identified buckling as the primary cause of handle failure which led to modifications to improve stability and load capacity without adding weight. These findings lay the groundwork for future optimization efforts, offering valuable insights to improve the design, durability, and environmental\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/earth-and-planetary-sciences\/environmental-impact-assessment\">sustainability<\/a>\u00a0of fish containers in industrial
