Last year in 2025, Matís entered into a collaboration agreement with the ALS Scandinavia laboratory in Sweden. ALS is an international company with 340 laboratories around the world. They analyse, among other things, environmental samples, food and samples from the pharmaceutical industry.
ALS in Sweden was established in 2006 and Matís has used their services since the founding of Matís ohf in 2007. Initially, drinking water samples were sent for extensive chemical analysis that cannot be carried out in Iceland. In recent years, the scope of environmental measurements has increased significantly. Chemical analysis of wastewater, leachate from landfills and soil samples is conducted with regard to contamination. They have, for example, analysed asbestos in drinking water, building materials and soil samples on our behalf.

With the introduction of the collaboration agreement, Matís has established a stock of sampling equipment for various types of analysis. The sampling equipment depends on what is being analysed, and for some measurements preservatives must be added to ensure reliable results despite transportation to Sweden. Matís staff are responsible for packing samples and preparing sampling containers for collection.
The analyses carried out by ALS can be found on their website https://www.alsglobal.se/en.
