How Do We Strengthen Sustainable Fisheries and Promote the Protection of Marine Ecosystems?
Haraldur Arnar Einarsson, specialist at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, and Sveinn Margeirsson, Director of Innovation and Climate Affairs at Brim, joined us on Matvælið and discussed, among other things, marine research, sustainable fisheries, ecosystem protection and adaptability in the fishing industry.
The MarineGuardian project aims to promote sustainable fisheries and contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, through increased knowledge and development of solutions that reduce bycatch, discards, oil consumption, negative impacts on benthic ecosystems, increase catch per unit of effort, and ensure improved data collection and processing for decision-making and sustainability reporting.
