Delegation from Pacific Islands Visits Matís

A delegation of ministers from the Pacific Islands visited Matís on 19 June to learn about Matís's operations and the company's participation in the development and advancement of fish processing in Iceland.

The representatives were impressed by the knowledge and facilities that Matís possesses and were very interested in potential opportunities for collaboration in developing fisheries in the Pacific Islands. Particular discussion focused on establishing a research laboratory, staff training and improvements in catch handling and cooling, provided that the World Bank would provide financial support for such collaboration.

Among the guests were Steven Victor, Minister of Fisheries and Environment for Palau, and Fabio Siksei, specialist, along with ministry staff from Palau. From Papua New Guinea were Jelta Wong, Minister of Fisheries, together with Gerri Katai, Simon Kaumi and Api Kassman. From the Ministry of Fisheries of the Solomon Islands was Deputy Secretary James Teri, and from the World Bank were Nika Asasi and Xavier Vincent.

From Matís were Oddur Már Gunnarsson, CEO of Matís, Margeir Gissurarson, Strategic Specialist, and Hildur Inga Sveinsdóttir, Project Manager.
