Energy transition in the fisheries sector in the Nordic countries

A report (working paper) has been published by the Nordic Council of Ministers examining the current status, developments, opportunities, challenges and future prospects of the energy transition in the fisheries sector across the Nordic countries.

Few nations in the world are in as strong a position as the Nordic countries to take significant steps towards an energy transition in the fisheries sector, yet at the same time, major challenges stand in the way of achieving this goal. Technical challenges, inadequate infrastructure, restrictive regulations, high costs and lack of financial incentives, fragmented data collection and access to data are among the factors that most hinder the further implementation of solutions that promote an energy transition in fisheries.

The report can be accessed herethe Icelandic representatives involved in preparing the report were Jónas R. Viðarsson from Matís and Ólafur Ögmundarson from the University of Iceland.
