Farmed fish could saturate the world

The ever-growing population poses major challenges that have been brought to the attention of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It is estimated that the world's population will reach 9.6 billion by 2050. Various production areas have already reached the expansion limit, so new ways need to be found to meet the food needs of the growing world.

It is important to find ways to tackle world hunger without compromising food quality or over-exploiting resources. The potential of aquaculture needs to be considered, and the possibility is that aquaculture can play a major role in eradicating hunger, promoting better health and reducing world poverty.

Numerous projects have been carried out within Matís related to aquaculture. The operations of Matís 'offices in the Westfjords have played a key role in Matís' collaboration with parties in aquaculture, as the Westfjords is the place where the development and development has been the most and fastest in this country. Matís has also had a successful collaboration with Hólar University, which operates an experimental station for aquaculture at Verin in Sauðárkrókur, where Matís is also housed.

Furthermore, Matís has participated in numerous foreign projects in this field, but a large part of them have focused on feed and how to reduce the cost of feeding. The feed component is a very significant factor in the costs of aquaculture companies.
