Megin viðfangsefni BlueProject tengist fisktegundinni „Sarrajão“ (Sarda Sarda). It is found by the Portuguese coast, but is not marketed today in Portucal for human consumption as it has considerable quantities of bones and a thick skin which is difficult to remove.
However, its nutritional value is considerably high. The project has three main objectives: (1) develop processing for producing fillets from „sarrajão“; (2) create new value added products from by-products of the fillet processing; and (3) provide municipalities with a tool to support Portuguese citizens of the future to make improved decisions about the food they eat in terms of health, wellbeing and their local agrifood economy.
The main focus of Matis in the project, is to contribute to the engagement, education and empowerment of the next generation towards healthy and sustainable food habits in Portugal, via Kids Cuisine the philosophy that has previously been developed, tested and implemented in Icelandic primary schools. This will be done by translating the Krakka Kokkar entertainment content into English and Portuguese, sharing experiences and helping to implement the Krakka Kokkar philosophy in Portuguese primary schools.
