Utilization of feathers and other by-products from poultry production

ChickPro - utilization of feathers and other by-products from poultry production into value-added products, is a collaborative project between Matís ohf., Ísfugl ehf., Matfugl ehf., the University of Iceland and Hólar University, which involves developing production processes that convert side streams (waste) from chicken farming into valuable products. The objectives of the project are twofold. Firstly, to develop and optimize new methods for extracting proteins from chicken waste using enzymes and microorganisms. Secondly, to explore the utilization potentials of the products, including the possibility of using the proteins in fish feed and in protein drinks for humans. In addition, the bioactivity of the peptides will be evaluated, with a special emphasis on wound healing.
