Project description:
The goal of the project is to find new and environmentally friendly ways to use seaweed and all the bioactive substances they contain. Brown seaweed like Ascophyllum nodosumand Saccharina latissimi contain active substances such as polyphenols, vitamins and polysaccharides. Extracts of these substances will be studied for various aspects including antioxidant activity, skin protection and potential antimicrobial properties. The structures and properties of these materials will then be examined and their extracts formulated into skin-protecting cosmetics. Possibilities in the food industry are also taken into account throughout the process.
