Project description:
The aim of the project is to investigate which enzymes thermophilic bacteria Rhodothermus marinus secretes when grown on different polysaccharides. R. marinus can grow on a variety of carbon sources, including polysaccharides found in large amounts in algae and other complex biomass. Because of this, the bacterium, as well as its enzymes, are of interest in linking to biomass degradation processes. To better understand which enzymes are used to degrade the polysaccharides xylan, laminarin, alginate and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), the bacterium is grown in a medium containing these sugars and the protein content of the medium is then analyzed by LC-MS / MS technology.
