Production of bioactive beta-glucan donors with the help of enzymes.

The aim of the project was to develop the production of bioactive beta-glucan sugars from brown algae of the genus Laminaria which grow in large numbers off the coast of Iceland.

After processing and purification of laminarin polysaccharides, enzymes were used to make branched granulated sugars with a variety of bioactivity and prebiotic properties.
