Capelin is an important species in Iceland. In recent years, it has proved difficult to find capelin in sufficient quantities to be able to issue fishing permits for the species. The aim of the eCAP project is to develop genetic methods for finding capelin with environmental genetic material. The capelin leaves genetic traces in the environment, which can be detected and measured in filtered sea samples.
