The Microalgae In IT project aims to develop a cycle system where carbon dioxide from emissions and nutrients from agricultural by-products are used to promote the growth of microalgae.
The properties of the microalgae will be monitored in terms of nutrient content and accumulation of toxins, and experiments will be carried out with cultivation conditions to maximize biomass production and protein content. Experiments will also be carried out with the processing of algae to make nutrients available, and their potential as a food supplement in aquaculture will be tested with a rainbow trout farming experiment.
