More sustainable fisheries and ecosystem protection in the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean

The MarineGuardian project aims to promote sustainable fisheries and contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, through increased knowledge and development of solutions that reduce bycatch, discards, oil consumption, negative impacts on benthic ecosystems, increase catch per unit of effort, and ensure improved data collection and processing for decision-making and sustainability reporting.

Matís is leading the project, which received a grant of 1.2 billion ISK (8 million euros), and the project has 21 participants in total, with key roles being played by Icelandic companies and institutions Trackwell, Brim, Hampiðjan and the Marine Research Institute, in addition the project will purchase services from Stika Environmental Solutions, Naust Marine and Stjörna-Odda.
