This project aims to answer the effect of different percentages of grain in the total feed of meat hybrids on meat quality, consumers' attitudes and willingness to buy, i.e. the market position of the meat in comparison with meat from young animals from the Icelandic cow breed.

Objectives

  • Obtaining information on the effect of grain ratio on beef quality and sensory properties of meat from hybrids.
  • Compare meat from Icelandic bulls and meat hybrids with regard to quality characteristics and sensory aspects.
  • Gather information that is useful for feed advice to farmers. Obtain information on whether there is a reason for special labeling of certain meat, which increases the profitability of farmers and ensures quality for consumers.
  • Improving the market conditions and competitiveness of beef from Icelandic meat hybrids.
  • Obtaining information on consumer attitudes, willingness to buy and attitude towards meat from meat hybrids after different feed treatments.

Research questions

  • Does the different percentage of grain in the total feed of meat hybrids affect meat quality, and in what way?
  • Can we achieve greater profitability by proving meat quality, labeling products and raising prices?
